The London Eye opened on march 2000 and now it is one of the main attractions in London. With it´s 135 meters hight and an wheel circumference from 424 meters it is the biggest ferris wheel in Europe.

First the ferris wheel was called Milleniu Wheel because the inventors of the wheel submitted the idea for a competition to celebrate the millennium. It has exactly 32 gondolas and can therefore transport 800 people. Each gondola represents a borough of London and weighs 10 tons. In addition, the London Eye rotates about one kilometer per hour, i.e. 0.26 meters per second, one revolution takes 30-40 minutes.

The Ferris wheel turns so slowly that it doesn’t have to stop when people get in, so it only stops for wheelchair users, for example. It cost £ 75m and construction took 2 years. It was actually opened on December 31, 1999, but due to technical difficulties, visitors were only able to use it from March 2, 2000. The London Eye has no superstition gondola 13.
